The sonnet Sir Gawain and the Green Knight manages significant topics and thoughts, for example, nobleness, valor, knighthood, Christian beliefs, truth, allurement, and chasing among others. Standardized testing - Crazy and Stressful Time for students, teachers, and parents - Free Essay Example

Did you know that about 16-20% of students have high test anxiety and another 18% are troubled by mildly-high test anxiety (American Test Anxieties Association)? From a young age, most students have taken standardized tests. Though they are not enjoyed by all, students are forced to take them. They may test knowledge, but they can also affect students brains with anxiety and stress. Standardized testing should be limited in schools because teacher instruction is focused on testing, standardized tests only show strengths and weaknesses of groups of students, and standardized tests can positively and negatively affect many families and school corporations. While students are testing, its not just the student that is affected, but the students family and, possibly, the entire school corporation. Vogt agrees when he writes about an interview with an English professor who wont allow her son to take the Pennsylvania System of School Assessment (PSSA) because high stake tests are negatively affecting her son, his family, his teachers, his school and, ultimately, the entire educational system (Vogt). Some parents are not big fans of standardized tests, and those parents often choose to opt-out. Opting-out means for a parent or guardian to not permit their child to take the standardized test. This is a way for parents to protest to the school corporations and the state. While there are bad sides to standardized testing, there are also very positive things that have come out of these tests. Standardized tests have had many goals, but this goal is important: to help students to learn. Standardized tests have been able to show groups of students strengths and weaknesses in various school subjects. Records have shown that students at eighth grade level seem to be closer to basic level than proficient level (Nations Report Card). This can show teachers that they need to teach their students better, so that all the students would be able to understand all the material. While the tests definitely show the strengths and weaknesses of groups of students, they dont show individual strengths and weaknesses. For example, on the Indiana Statewide Testing For Educational Progress Plus (ISTEP+), when the results come back, students see how well they did compared to the rest of the state. It doesnt show individual strengths and weaknesses, but statewide comparisons, which isnt extremely helpful. Issitt agrees when he writes that while standardized tests offer information about a population, they do not provide data that addresses the achievement of specific individuals (Issitt). This is one of the problems that some parents and students have with standardized tests. The purpose of teachers is to teach students to help them remember important information about specific subjects. While this is the goal of all teachers, they dont do it. Many teachers focus their teaching on improving students test scores, which is known as teaching the test (Standardized Testing). While it may partially help to improve test scores, it doesnt help students retain the information. This is something that many parents are trying to get school corporations to fix. If someone has issues with standardized testing, tell them to go to their superintendent or state representative to try and change standardized testing rules. If they change standardized testing, it may help students not to worry as much. It will help their brains to be released from huge amounts of anxiety and stress from standardized tests. One day, teachers might teach for the students benefit, standardized tests could positively impact everyone, and the tests could show individual student improvement, instead of statewide student comparisons. Hopefully, one day standardized testing will be restricted for the good of the students, the parents, the school corporation, and, possibly, the entire world.

Plato and Woody Allen free essay sample

It is my opinion that the view of Justice that is provided by Socrates is in fact the proper explanation of what it is to be Just. It is not enough to appear just to people around you, you must be Just. Even if you appear to be the most Just and loved person in the world that means nothing If you cannot be at peace within your soul which means having a balance between the three parts. For if someone has an opportunity to steal something such as a computer, although they may be better off materially and appear to have acted Justly to those around them. This does not exempt them from the sickness that must be brew In their soul because one sin leads to a deeper sin, and If that person Is not caught they will continue on a path that destroys the harmony that must take place wealth their soul. This Is first demonstrated when he decides to have an affair with Dolores.By choosing to have an intimate relationship with money other than his wife Judas has abandoned the harmony that Socrates says must be in place in order for someone to be just. Judas has allowed his desire for physical pleasure to take over reason. If Judas were just he would not have allowed appetite to rule reason because he should not allow any part of himself to do the work of another part or allow the various classes within him to meddle with each other. (44th) Secondly Judas cannot be a Just person because he claims that he has benefited from having Dolores killed. Socrates would argue that an unjust act, like hat of murder cannot be profitable to anyone, since, even though he may acquire more money or other sort of power from them, they make him more vicious. (591 a) Thirdly since Judas was able to evade the law Socrates would argue that this would only make him even more unjust because doesnt the one who remains undiscovered become even more vicious while the one who is discovered is calmed and tamed forcing him to reacquire balance in his soul. Therefore since a just person would not want to risk becoming more vicious and creating imbalance in the OLL Judas cannot be a Just person. In conclusion I believe that even though Judas claims that he has not suffered as a consequence of his actions that there Is no way for this to be true. Once Judas allowed his soul to operate In a way that was Inconsistent with its natural way, then he put his soul Into a state of Inner turmoil, which has only grown because he was never caught. ICI dominates the market share with 4. 2 Million Liters with its Weathershield. Million ICI Dulux has maintained an image of being the most expensive in the category along with providing the best quality among its competitors. ICI has been a 60% market share with its major competitor being Berger. Berger has a 20% market share followed by a 20% share by smaller brands which include Berger, Blackhorse, Silversand, Master, Nippon, Gobi, Hapilac etc. With the help of a lot of promotional activities for its dealers as well as consumers, it has earned a great amount of goodwill over the years. While its competitors concentrate more on variety and mass production and a lot of other different strategies, the company is essentially a quality centric company. ICI DULUX Company is having More than 80 years of experience in the paints industry, offering Wider range of products and Wider dealer network as compared to its competitors. Business volume of ICI Dulux is very high as compared to the competitors and it Focuses on safety, security, health and environment as a corporate social responsibility. ICI DULUX TARGET MARKET: * To target at Decorator firms: Decorator firms decorate interior and exterior structure of large number of offices, buildings, schools, etc. In modern days every entity wants itself to be well decorated and look up to date. A decorator firm comprises of an interior designers who play a pivotal role in selection of a product to be used. These products include paints with good quality, extensive range and varied effects. Moreover, there is an extensive range of 52 two-tone colour ways available on the Dulux tinting system. This could influence the customers of the identified markets by providing them with varied alternatives, especially when it comes to interior decoration and designing in which colour paints hold a prime and significant place. Since Dulux has an extensive range of varied products, so to target them would lead to good sales. * To target at Trade Market: Traders have a firm position in the market; the trade market is a chain that is constituted of super stockists, dealers, wholesalers, and retailers. A super stockist is a small organisation where company keeps their stock to pass it on to the next steps of the market viz dealers wholesalers retailers to end users. A Marketing Manager should aim and target the products to this organisation as the super stockist holds a strong position in the market. Super stockist has a wide range of customer base as he delivers the products other mentioned trade unit s. The market can be achieved by incurring time and money in promotion of products. * To target Construction Firms: Construction firms have a massive business all around. The builders construct large number of buildings for example, schools, collages, hospitals, offices, call centres, etc. The major construction firms usually undertake big construction projects. These firms are targeted to yield good returns and flourishment is expected. Architects:- they are much quality oriented ,their purchase decision does not depend on the price and the cost analysis so ICI Dulux can target this segment for the high range products ,which a common man cannot purchase ,architects can help in increase in sales of the company and profits. Challenge: In 1973, ICI launched its Weathershield technology in UK. The Weathershield technology reached Pakistan in 1984. but after this , Dulux has not done any innovation for a long time till 2005. In 2005 ICI Paints appointed its first chief marketing officer (CMO). Until then the organisation had been run as a multi-local organisation, with each of the 50 countries including pakistan determining its own marketing strategy. There were examples of local success but performance was patchy, the company struggled to leverage good ideas and, more importantly, growth was slowing. The task for the CMO was twofold: improve the performance of the marketing organisation and create competitive advantage from global scale. Its major competitors were local or regional players, so global reach and scale set the company apart. However, its multi-local operating model was limiting its ability to realise this advantage. A pivotal question the company asked itself was whether it could win against its competitors through simply building local capability and leveraging best practice. Or was there actually an opportunity to create advantage through building a brand image and brand awareness? Because The Dulux name was present in many markets but it was far from being a global brand. Being one of the oldest and the globally trusted brand it has not changed with time. This change which is very cardinal for every company to grow over the years is non existent in Dullux. Dulux has not launched variants and did not plan on it as well. They believed in providing quality and not variety with mediocre quality. the brand has become just a traditional brand. In fact The product is always successful because of its awareness among the customers. Despite of holding a strong position in the market Dulux Paint has not been able to aware the customers fully about the three new products. The knowledge among consumers is very less resulting in uncertainty of the product among them. This is a result of less promotional schemes. There is a high degree of uncertainty about the Dulux paints new products in Market because a large market share was catured by competitors. Among the many challenges to cope with competition there is one more which is the most important one for the brand, it is keeping brand awareness at optimum levels at all times. Long term and short term goals have to be set for the brand and strategy is of utmost importance here. Dulux there needs to be equilibrium of creating awareness even in the areas which have never tapped before. The challenge here now is to tap the niche market in a way which has never been before and to create a new category inside the existing so that an automatic niche is created. Being the first in a category gives an automatic brand standing in the eyes of the consumer. The one important thing to look at here is that the strategic advertising opportunities were not really explores well enough. The awareness of the brand has almost diminished in places where it was already low. There is no brand recognition in most rural areas what so ever. The brand is far from being recognized a paints manufacturer, it has lost its identity in most developing urban areas as well. There is no brand presence of Dulux paints in the economy brands because of which when middle class consumers opted for better quality and premium emulsions they did not consider Dulux, instead, they stuck to the same brand they knew very well. When it comes to media planning and placements, ICI Dulux has been far behind the requirements of the band wagon of pacting. The only thing because of which the brand loses out on popularity is that, consumers nowadays think that if a brand is out of sight it is out of function and so they tend to deviate from it. QUESTIONS: * What are the opportunities to create advantage through building a brand image and brand equity? * What are the factors which are influencing its demand and what will be your target market to capture 80% market share in Pakistan paint industry? * Who are the competitors and how they are threat for ICI dulux? * What are the marketing strategies they must be used to create awareness and reposition the brand? What are the recommendations you can give for this case study? Opportunities: * Dulux Paints has undoubtly a large market available viz builders, merchants, and retailers, that needs to be looked upon. * There is an increased demand of broken colour effects among consumers, hereby creating an opportunity to target them by implementing high promotional schemes. * There is an increase in the technology of painting that can be a boon for Dulux in long run. FACTORS INFLUENCING DEMAND: ICI Weathershield being a premier paint targets mainly the urban areas of Pakistan. It focuses primarily on households. Unlike the usual products where the decision-maker is the final consumer, painters and contractors also have the ability to influence the decision making process. Factors influencing the level of demand; * The housing industry in the largest industry of Pakistan. Pakistan is one of the 20 countries of the world where Real Estate business is on the top of the list. So the housing boom will add fuel to the demand level of paints. * These include the continued migration of rural consumers to urban areas in search of work and an improved standard of living. This improving quality of life will increase in level of demand for the product. * The number of Pakistanis returning to the country having worked abroad will also fuel growth, as these consumers bring with them knowledge of the products available in the west, as well as general lifestyle trends to which they have accustomed. * Rising inflation can cause decrease in the purchasing power of the people ICI Dulux Weathershield Vs Their Competitors: ICI Weathershield dictates prices in the exterior market. All the competitors including the smaller players follow the same pricing strategies. The Biggest competitor of ICI Paints is Berger Robilac; it is local company which is being run by the Big Investors in Pakistan. The price of ICI Weathershield is 5% more than that of Berger’s Weathercoat. Berger has still to come-up with a product to compete with the new Weathershield Fresh which comes with an added feature to repel dust. The new ICI Weathershield is also available in a lot more colors than any other exterior paint in the market. Thus Berger is lagging behind in its product development strategies. We can infer from this matrix that Burger Paints lags behind ICI in marketing and customer satisfaction. Berger| Dulux| Critical success factors | Rating| Rating| Market share | 3| 4| Product range | 4| 3| Customer satisfaction | 2| 3| Quality | 4| 4| Brand franchise| 3| 3| Relative cost | 2| 2| New product activity | 3| 3| Advertising | 1| 3| Sale Of Fake Paint: All personnel interviewed expressed their firm opinion that at least 20% of the paint sold in the local market is â€Å"fake paint† sold under popular brand names. Since ICI Weathershield is the most popular brand for the exterior paint, the percentage of fake paint sold under its brand name is even higher. Although ICI dulux Paints has a large number of authorized dealers and most of these dealers are loyal to the company, however the general public was not completely aware of how to differentiate the genuine dealers. Also some of these authorized dealers are not quite as loyal and ICI Paints has occasionally received complaints in this regard, which ici dulux have dealt with increasing the incentives of dealers. In addition the ICI paint products including the Weathershield is also being sold by other shopkeepers who are not authorized dealers. Paint purchased through these shops has even lower credibility. so ici dulux established their own Point of Sale Tinting and its own Model Shops. ICI Weathershield is supplied in metal containers, which are not sealed in any foolproof fashion. REPOSITIONING Positioning by product attributes and benefits: ICI Dulux Paints have a differentiated identity in the market as they are better and beneficial in comparison to parity products and traditional paints. All these factors can be highlighted catering the market with the help of promotional schemes. This will not only highlight the key qualities of brand but, will also lead to mass awareness in costumers and clarify the essence of Dulux Brands in a unique the most popular brands are; Weathershield Sun Reflect: Innovation has been the key driver behind the success of Dulux in creating the brands and initiative for sustainability. We feel good when they reflect who we are and who we want to be. Dulux’s role is to inspire and help people to create beautiful homes and communities through colour. We believe that in doing so we can lift spirits and bring people together. In fact, we sell ‘tins of optimism’ not just tins of paint’. This was articulated through the brand idea of ‘adding colour to people’s lives’. The South East Asia marketing team was immediately inspired by this idea and created a cross- market campaign for Dulux Weathershield that focused on how Dulux transformed a community from a world of grey to a vibrant and colourful community filled with joy. This more emotional approach (backed up by a clear product functionality) proved to be much more effective than the previous campaigns, yielding above average cut-through and persuasion and was seen as new, credible, relevant and unique. CONCLUSION amp; RECOMMENDATIONS: From the above all discussion I have found that ICI Paints has a lot of resources and well equipped. It is true to say that ICI Paints is Market leader and it is fully ap plying all of its resources on Quality Practices, Customer Retaining amp; Satisfaction, Research amp; Development and Environmental Control, but it needs to show some management commitment to retain its position, because one of its competitors is penetrating in the market. Raising public awareness through advertisement about the fake paint sold in the market. * Taking suitable measures whereby ICI Paints official Dealers are easily recognizable – perhaps by displaying a sign board. * Forward integration: ICI at the moment is depending on dealers for the sale of their products. These dealers store company’s products, retailers have to get ICI products from these dealers amp; then offer customers for sale. If ICI instead of depending on dealers use their own on distribution to supply products to retailers then they can increase the sales of their products by giving products to every possible retailers and in this way they can get acceptance of every retailer to get their product and offer it to customer for sale. ICI dulux should focusing on the end consumers instead of giving tokens to contractors. It believes that this will help develop long-term loyalty from its consumers resulting in repeat sales. * Backward integration: Presently ICI Pakistan is purchasing its raw material from both local as well as foreign suppliers. About 75% material is purchased from foreign countries and 25% is purchased locally. As such as huge quantity of raw material is purchased from foreign countries that’s why change in government import duties have a great impact on prices of raw material which also increase the prices of finished products. Therefore if ICI acquires local suppliers for start making its own raw material then it can save itself from such fluctuations in prices, which could result in the stabilization of prices, and customers can purchase the products at low prices. If ICI gains control over their local suppliers by ownership and take charge of their operation then a significant cost cutting is possible. After getting ownership if ICI start manufacturing all or most of the required raw material locally then they can significantly reduce the volume of import thus avoiding the heavy import duties imposed by the govt. It will result in decrease in cost of product and ICI would be able to offer its product at a relatively cheaper price.

Merchant Of Venice Shylock Victim Or Villian Essays - Orientalism

Merchant Of Venice Shylock Victim Or Villian To what extent do you feel sympathy for Shylock? In the 16th century Jews were discriminated against especially in England and Venice. Christians believed that the Jewish race was inferior to them and that Jews should not be accepted into their society. There were very few Jews in England in this period this was mainly due to the fact that Edward had been lent money by several Jewish money lenders, he became unable to repay the money he owed them, and as a result sent them into exile. The remaining Jewish population were hated even more. In Venice, Jews were not given equal opportunities. They were unable to own land or work in the country as anything other than money lenders people resented them for charging interest on the money they lent which was their only income. Not many people wanted to do this type of work anyway, as money lenders were very unpopular so they left it to the Jews. This was extremely unfair as the Jews had to rely upon the people living in Venice to survive in the country. In Shakespeare's ?The Merchant of Venice' Shylock ,a Jewish money lender is hated by Antonio (the merchant of Venice) firstly because of his religion, and secondly because of his profession. Antonio thinks that Shylock is wrong for charging interest on the money he lends out. ( Antonio is very wealthy so he can do this, it is also not his profession.) Antonio's reasons for hating Shylock would have reflected the views of Shakespeare's audience. Shakespeare has made Shylock a very avaricious character we see this aspect of him as soon as he enters the play with his first words ?3000 ducats'. This characteristic is shown in several parts of the play. To its extreme when Jessica, his daughter runs away taking his money and jewels with her, he says ? I would my daughter were dead at my foot, and the jewels in her ear'. This shows he cares more about his money and jewels than he does about his own daughter being found alive. In Shylock's first scene it becomes clear he is miserly he spends a long time debating whether or not to lend Bassanio the 3000 ducats. The main reason for his delayed response is he likes to have control over the situation which is not usually the case. He loves the fact that for once Christians need him,a Jew especially .Shylock cruelly takes advantage of his position and keeps Antonio and Bassanio in suspense waiting for his decision,he even goes as far as to pretend he has forgotten the amount they wanted, he is very devious. Shylock is also very two-faced he tells Bassanio how much he hates Antonio' I hate him for he is a Christian' , but to Antonio's face he is pleasant' Rest you fair signior'. When Shylock eventually gives in he says he will only lend Bassanio the money if when the 3 months is up the money is not repaid in full then he shall have a pound of Antonio's flesh this is enough to kill him. This would be Shylock's way of taking revenge on Antonio, he says to Antonio' You call me misbeliever, cut throat dog,and spit upon my Jewish gabardine' this seems like a rather extravagant length to go to. Shylock is not at all sensitive to his daughters feeling like for instance when he tells Jessica she must not go out and join in the party with ?Christian fools' he is obviously not willing to discuss this with her. When Antonio cannot repay Shylock his money Shylock becomes very unreasonable and stubborn, he is not willing to let the bond go for any amount of money that is being offered to him it is clear that he is loving having Antonio's life resting on his mercy. It is clear that he is revelling in it.He even goes so far as to start sharpening his knife if front of Antonio's face in the courtroom, which is taking it to far! You could argue that Shylock was in fact a victim firstly because he was discriminated against because of his religion you spit on me on Wednesday last, you spurned me such a day, another time you called me

Invasion of Australia essays

Invasion of Australia essays Invasion, Settlement or Colonisation For over 60,000 years Aboriginal people lived on this continent, owning, caring for and being sustained by the land. With their deep knowledge of nature and respect for the environment in which they lived, they developed a successful economy and a rich spiritual and cultural life. 1788 saw the arrival of Europeans and the decimation of the aboriginal people. 1. Enter territory with armed forces to attack, damage or occupy it. 2. Crowd in; tourists invaded the city. 3. Penetrate harmfully; the disease had invaded all parts of the body. Invasion suggests that there was already an inhabitant of the land and that the land of the inhabitants was. It also suggests that there was force used in claiming the land from its original inhabitants through use of military force. The European government that came to colonise Australia referred to the land as Terra Nullius, which means land that belongs to no one. They divided up land that was not theirs and built houses and farms. The aborigines were seen as savages. 1. Not civilized; barbaric: a savage people. 2. Ferocious; fierce: in a savage temper. The Aborigines were forced off their native land and when they opposed they were shot, hung or executed by other means. One such occasion was the Battle of Pinjarra. They might have called it the Battle of Pinjarra but like all of the massacres of the Aborigines it was more a case of wholesale slaughter than of some equally poised, European-style battle. Wrote Bruce Elder in his book Blood on the Wattle: the massacres and maltreatment of Australian Aborigines. Invasion, Settlement or Colonisation When the continent was invaded by Europeans in the nineteenth century, the White historians who wrote about Australia included a section on the nati ...

Assignment #2 355 Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words

#2 355 - Assignment Example Additionally, the family is constantly involved in wrangles and family conflicts, mainly associated with limited resource availability and distribution. One aspect worth noting with the family is the aspect of the gendered division of labor. Jay, who is the head of the family, struggles in order to provide for his big family, which comprises of his second wife, who also works though for limited pay, and, therefore only takes care of her two children, a stepson, an infant son, two adult children, their spouses, one couple of which comprises same sex individuals, and children. Jay and the two adult children all struggle with menial jobs to make ends meet in for the provision of the familys basic needs , while Jay’s second wife, despite also working, only takes care of her children while the other adult children’s spouses, work on the housekeeping duties. Considering how big the family is, with a house that is tiny, the house is rarely clean, with the large number of members as well as the struggle between the adult females in the house about the person to clean the house contributing to the house untidiness. The lead characters are individuals of 20 years and above, among whom conflict is constantly witnessed. There is no frail elderly individual in the family; however, Jay’s stepson is constantly on the wheelchair because of broken limbs from an earlier accident. From the TV show, work is presented favorably as a factor towards the contribution of provision of family’s basic needs. However, the family is presented negatively as despite the effort put by Jay and the adult children in their duties towards providing for the family, the family members is always in conflict, especially the Jay’s second wife and Jay’s other children. Modern family characters portray a critical aspect of what a modern family in America comprises. First, is an

Medication error Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1250 words

Medication error - Essay Example Quality management philosophies and systems are highlighted because they emphasize a learning organization culture that critically determines and resolves medication errors in the long run. Hence, medication errors are not the responsibility of prescribers alone, but a responsibility of the healthcare team and the healthcare organization, as well as the government. Introduction On September 14, 2010, 50-year-old Kimberly Hiatt, a longtime critical care nurse at Seattle Children’s Hospital, administered the wrong dosage of calcium to a fragile baby, Kaia Zautner (Aleccia, 2011). Zautner died five days later, although it was not clear whether the medication error killed her. Nevertheless, Hiatt, who was fired and underwent a state nursing commission investigation, committed suicide seven months after Zautner died. Aleccia (2011) reported that around 1 in 7 Medicare patients are harmed because of medication errors. Andel et al. (2012) estimated the economic costs of medication er rors using quality-adjusted life years (QALYs) and the Institute of Medicine’s report of 98,000 deaths every year. They discovered that the conservative cost of these deaths is â€Å"$73.5 billion to $98 billion in QALYs† (Andel et al., 2012, p.41). ... Causes of Medication Errors: Providers and Environment Tully et al. (2009) examined the causes of and factors connected to medication errors that concern prescriptions for hospital inpatients. They grouped the causes according to Reason’s model of accident causation, which will also be used in this essay: active failures, error-provoking conditions and latent conditions. Active Failures Active failures pertain to hazardous acts that prescribers make, which means that all medication errors consist of at least one active failure (Tully et al., 2009, p.826). One of the most common sources of active failure is knowledge-based. Prescribers committed mistakes either because they did not know enough about the drug or about the patient (Grissinger & Kelly, 2005, p.62; Tully et al., 2009, p.826). Some of the examples are giving the wrong dose or not being aware that a patient’s co-morbidity was a contraindication for the provided medicine. Another kind of active failure is skill -based or based on memory lapses (Tully et al., 2009, p.826). A couple of instances are interruption of the prescriber, who then makes a mistake, and when prescribers were too busy that they made an error. Aside from skill-based faults, policy violations are also problematic. Violations refer to active choices wherein prescribers ignore formal or informal policies that they were expected to follow (Tully et al., 2009, p.826). One example is medication error that comes from a medical student because his supervisor did not check his prescription. These active failures contribute to numerous medication errors. Error-provoking Conditions Error-provoking conditions are different from active

BNET Business Dictionary defines it as "the degree to which customer expectations of a product or service are met or exceeded" (CBS Interactive Inc.). The increase in competition is forcing more businesses to give much attention to satisfying the customers (Authenticity Consulting, LLC). Customer satisfaction in the UK was found to be a key weapon for competitive differentiation and customer retention (Horsnell 1998). Because of this, guest satisfaction is found to be a common practice as managers found out that excellent customer service is essential for their organization's health (Horsnell 1998). Customer satisfaction is the paramount criterion used to determine the quality that is actually given to customers through products/services and other accompanying services (Vavra 1997). More and more studies have revealed the importance of customer satisfaction. It is of great importance to business firms as it fuels repeat purchases and word-of-mouth recemmendation (H.W Berkman 1986). "Satisfaction reinforces positive attitudes toward the brand, leading to greater likelihood that the

Claudius of Shakespeares Hamlet Essay -- Essays on Shakespeare Hamlet

Claudius of Hamlet  Ã‚        Ã‚  Ã‚   A close second in nobility to the protagonist in Shakespeare’s Hamlet is the incredible King Claudius. His superior qualities render him a worthy antagonist capable of a plummeting downfall at the climax.    G. Wilson Knight in "The Embassy of Death" interprets the character of Claudius:    Claudius, as he appears in the play, is not a criminal. He is - strange as it may seem - a good and gentle king, enmeshed by the chain of causality linking him with his crime. And this chain he might, perhaps, have broken except for Hamlet, and all would have been well. But, granted the presence of Hamlet - which Claudius at first genuinely desired, persuading him not to return to Wittenberg as he wished - and granted the fact of his original crime which cannot now be altered, Claudius cannot now be blamed for his later actions. They are forced on him. As King, he could scarcely be expected to do otherwise. (n. pag.)    The drama opens after Hamlet has just returned from Wittenberg, England, where he has been a student. What brought him home was the news of his father’s death and his uncle’s accession to the throne of Denmark. Philip Burton in â€Å"Hamlet† discusses Claudius’ sudden rise to the Danish throne upon the death of King Hamlet I:    A strong new king was immediately needed; the election of Claudius, particularly in the absence of Hamlet, was inevitable. What is more, it was immediately justified, because Claudius manages to dispel the threat of invasion by appealing to the King of Norway to curb his nephew, Fortinbras; the ambitious young soldier was the more ready to cancel the projected invasion because the object of his revenge, Hamlet’s father, was now dead, and in ret... .../ham1-col.htm    Faucit, Helena (Lady Martin).
